Summary:

Now that we have that out of the way, lets talk style. If you do not like passport sleeve made of tin foil, it makes sense to go for something more appealing.

Vinco Fly does exactly that - does its best to make your passport sleeve look pretty and arguably stylish.

The RFID chip inside your passport can be exploited to give a hacker access to the data on your passport. So that means the  details on your passport are readily available to anyone who walks by with $50 – $100 of easily acquirable RFID kit.

You probably know about the need for protection already but is Vinco Fly a valid solution?

Lets begin by saying that if you travel, you should get RFID protection now, don’t wait for Indegogo campaign to ship one to you.  Identity theft is serious and when you travel it can create a major issues. There is a huge selection of cheap, appealing solutions already on the market like this one on amazon. For 5 bucks you can protect you passport and bunch of credit cards.

Concept behind protection of RFID chips is very simple – conductor surrounds the passport or credit card, absorbing signals that would otherwise reach the chip. Electromagnetic signal travels through and around the sleeve making the chip invisible.  Role of conductor in most products, is given to tin foil, yea.

Now that we have that out of the way, lets talk style. If you do not like passport sleeve made of mostly tin foil, it makes sense to go for something more appealing.

Vinco Fly does exactly that –  combines tin foil with other materials to make your passport sleeve look pretty and arguably, stylish.

Is Vinco Fly practical?

I have been using various passport sleeves during my travel and found them to suffer from same issues.

  1. They are flimsy, very thin. Glue keeping them together tends to come undone overtime.
  2. Inserting your passport is often bit of a challenge because edges are flimsy.

Vinco Fly does seem like less flimsy version of existing products but I still think thin walls will be an issue. Inserting your passport in to something with thin edges is bit of hassle even with stitching they added. Will have to see when product comes out.

Will Vinco Fly deliver if funded?

Yes it will deliver and very likely to be on time. So if you just want more style with your passport sleeve and do not mind paying $20 extra bucks – pre-order away!
